The books starts right out with Melanie's husband starting to treat her like crap. Starting to completely ignore their son, Lucas. Then not coming home for days & nights at the the time. She said something to him about it and makes him mad & he quits his job & haves his friends over all the time & she working long hours & then Nick tries to give her food away to his buddies that she brings home to eat for her supper. Isn't it enough she's support him & their drinking parties & things goes from bad to worse he attacks her one day & while he was gone she had all the locks changed. He swore he'd get even. One night he rung the doorbell & she hadn't heard anything from in while, she open the door & he attacked her. What will happen? I can't tell you too much. Will she escape? Where is her son? He blames her for everything anyway. I received this ARC for free & I am giving my review for free & in my own words. I highly recommend it!

This may be Hayley Summers' best series to date! Melanie finds the courage to divorce an increasingly abusive husband, taking their teenage son with her to her hometown for the summer, in order to put some space between them and her angry ex. Melanie has a lot of emotions to deal with as she works to put her life back together. She is fortunate enough to be able to rent the home she grew up in, and still has dear friends living in the area to support her. Also living Saphhire Beach is her childhood sweetheart Owen, who has never gotten over her. It is inevitable that their paths will collide. Owen is a police officer now. Melanie's son Lucas is struggling with being uprooted, although he does make friends with the son of his mother's dear friend, as well as a girl he met on the beach. This is a captivating read, the first book in the series. I've read the ARC of this book and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I feel bad saying this but skip this series and go to Hayley Smmers' Tybee island one instead.
All that being said go read Tybee island because I left that a really good review!

How did this book end so quickly? This book pulls on the heart strings and Ms. Summer's does an excellent job of building the history of how Melanie's relationship with her husband deteriorated and ended in divorce and not an amicable one. A summer in the beachside town, Sapphire Beach, where she grew up may be just the place for her and her son, Lucas, to begin to move beyond the divorce. As Melanie reconnects with friends and tries to rebuild a life for her and her son, there is concern over a violent ex-husband finding them, a rebellious teen son and the mystery of how she was separated from her first love who has never gotten over her. The book ends with a cliff hanger. I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving my opinion of the book without any influence from the author.

Melanie had her husband change character out of no where and finally got to sneak away from him. She went to Saphire Beach where she spent summers in her childhood years. She has great memories and is hoping that her son Lucus has the same experience. Back in Melanie's life is Owen, her high school sweetheart who has been wanting her back in his life and she suddenly appears, much to his joy. Good read in that there is enough intrigue and mystery to keep reader interested. Anxious for book 2 I received an early copy for my honest and voluntary review.
